Volunteer

We have an awful lot going on from showing visitors around to planting trees and creating habitat to researching our history.

If you would like to volunteer, then please email us on info@middleton-north.co.uk

Safaris

We have a wide range of safaris to show you all that is going on at Middleton North. Hopefully there is something for everyone. We do ask that you are prepared. In most cases you will be walking across uneven ground for reasonable distances. There is also our delightful weather to consider…

If you would like a drive around the various habitats, then this can be arranged please see Driven Safari.

Organised Bird Identification Safaris

Our experts will talk you through bird identification and then take you on a fascinating walk identifying our local birds through their song and guided observation through your binoculars. You will no doubt see other signs of wildlife and pick up some invaluable tips on fieldcraft.

Wild Flower Identification Courses

Our experts will take you on field walks to identify common and rare plants at Middleton North. These will take place at different times of the year to show the habitats in their seasonal phases

Farm Walks

Come and see how the farm is evolving from a largely arable farm to a pasture and wildlife rich habitat of meadows and woodland Charlie Bennett will host you and explain what the project is about, where we are and where we are going.

River Walks

Come for a walk along the river Wansbeck to see a wide variety of bird life and if you are lucky an Otter. You will also get to see our ancient rig and furrow pastures that have at least 40 different species of plants.

Forest Schools

Our Forest Schools will be led by Adventure Training North East

They are leading providers of Forest Schools in the area. They will be organising Forest schools across the year at Middleton North

Driven Safaris

You will be driven around Middleton North in our faithful farm truck (max of 3 persons). We will have a look at how the farm is evolving and all the various habitats. We will be driving on rough tracks and fields so be ready for a bumpy ride! Bring wellies and suitable clothing for the weather as you will be getting out at certain points

Wannie Line Walk

We are privileged to have a section of the Old North British Railway or as it is locally known the Wannie Line. If you are a train buff come and see the Old Middleton North Station site, bridges and Plate layer’s hut or you can just imagine what a great journey it used to be.

The line is also a central part of our habitat for birds, mammals and wildflowers. Charlie will talk you through the history and point out details of plants and wildlife

Build a Barn Owl Box

We need more barn owl boxes. If you could build us a box / boxes we would be very grateful.

I will be attaching the plans shortly
